Essay Fiesta Turns 9 on November 19th!

Essay Fiesta turns 9 years old this month, which is 63 in dog years, 52 in cat years, and 97.4 in live lit years. Like many middle-aged dogs and cats, Essay Fiesta can be trusted to be left at home alone without wrecking the furniture. It will, however, still pee on the floor from time to time, and you may have to hide pills in its food.

On Monday, November 19th, come on down to The Book Cellar at 7pm and join hosts Karen Shimmin and Willy Nast for Essay Fiesta’s ninth birthday celebration. Our lineup features a fully potty-trained round-up of some of our favorite Essay Fiestaers:

You’re Being Ridiculous Host Jeremy Owens
Storyteller Archy Arch J
The Answer to the Riddle is Me Author David MacLean
Miss Spoken Co-Host Rosamund Lannin

As always, the show is free. In lieu of birthday gifts, we’ll be collecting happy birthday donations to support our favorite 9 year-olds at 826CHI.

Chicago 4 Iowa: Dump Steve King

We are a group of former Iowans organizing a fundraiser to dump Rep. Steve King and support his opponent in the 4th congressional district, J.D. Scholten. Kick off your Labor Day weekend right by sipping on delicious Dovetail beer, enjoying comedy, dancing to some tunes, bidding on great raffle prizes, and supporting a great Democratic candidate in North-West Iowa.

We are asking for a $10 donation at the door. More details on entertainment and food are to come! So stay tuned

The Skewer 31: Later in the Summer

(RSVP on Facebook)

Come join us for the American late-summer tradition of colluding with a hostile entity, except instead this time the hostile entity is The Skewer and the collusion will be you laughing at our jokes! I swear this metaphor sounded better in my head. In any case, we are BACK at Cafe Mustache for another month of scathing op-eds and hilarious debate covering the dumb news of our awful world. Tom Harrison hosts this INCREDIBLE lineup of heavy-hitters and all-stars, all of whom will absolutely own.
